UCU Canons made an uncharacteristic start to the 2023 National Basketball League season, enduring defeat at the hands of Ndejje University Angels.
The 2022 semi-finalists fell 64-55 on a Wednesday evening to forget at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
On the evening, the two sides tied 13-13 by the end of the opening quarter, and it was 39-38 by the end of the third quarter.
In the absence of star player and guard Harold Arinaitwe, Marshel Oketch came up big for Ndejje with 24 points, the highest on the evening.
On the other hand, Peter Sifuma turned up huge, but his double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds was not quite enough to help UCU avoid defeat.
In the absence of Fayed Bbale and Titus Lual, two of their best players last season, UCU struggled on the evening, turning over the ball a whooping 42 times.
Meanwhile, Ndejje, who finished 10th last season, will be proud of their start to the current campaign, having beaten KCCA as well, on Sunday.
