2025/26 University Football League | Wednesday March 11

  • Gulu University 0-1 St. Lawrence University
  • Lira University 2-1 Makerere University Business School

St. Lawrence University became the first team to reach the knockout stage of this season’s University Football League after edging Gulu University 1–0 away in Gulu.

The visitors needed patience in a tightly contested match before finally finding the breakthrough late on.

Mukiibi Sharafah struck in the 83rd minute, finishing off a move created by Mohammed Sserwada to seal an important away victory.

The win keeps St. Lawrence perfect in Group D with nine points from three matches and confirms their place in the last eight.

It also marks a fifth consecutive season reaching the knockout stage for the side that finished runners-up last year after losing the final to Uganda Martyrs University.

Elsewhere in the group, league debutants Lira University stunned two-time champions Makerere University Business School 2–1 in a dramatic contest.

Kihumuro Huzaifah gave Lira the lead in the 55th minute before Brian Katete equalised for MUBS six minutes later. Okeng Emmanuel then struck deep in stoppage time to hand the newcomers a memorable victory.

Despite the defeat, MUBS remain second in Group D with three points and a better goal difference than Gulu University and Lira University, leaving the race for the remaining knockout spot wide open.

Action continues with Group B on Thursday as Bugema University host Africa Renewal University, International University of East Africa face Kabale University, and Bishop Stuart University take on Muteesa I Royal University in Mbarara.
