Uganda Chess starts Youth Olympiad preps with high intensity

Uganda Chess Federation commenced the preparations for the forthcoming U16 Youth Chess Olympiad.

This will be the first time Uganda will compete at this set to happen in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

A group of twelve players pooled into three groups will represent the country between the 12th go the 19th of August.

As the mode of their training, players have been handed study material provided on an online space, and their progress is tracked.

The general practice sessions which last four hours will happen every Sunday at a selected residence.

Team coach Walter Okas says the emphasis on their preparations is on ‘athlete fitness’.

“Athlete fitness is the main focus, studying lots of the middle game and common endgame concepts. And certainly polishing up openings and repertoires.”

The players to work on the team strategy were selected from a national Qualifier that took place in February at Gloria’s Garden.
