Uganda Cranes’ chances to qualify for the AFCON finals are still alive

All hope is not lost for the Uganda Cranes in the AFCON Qualifiers after the disappointing loss to Algeria last week.

Cranes suffered a 2-1 defeat to Algeria in the penultimate round of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

The result left the Pearl of Africa nation in third place with 4 points and a negative 3 goals difference in Group F.

Algeria, already through to the AFCON finals, moved to 15 points, while Tanzania and Niger have 7 and 2, respectively.

Uganda’s final group game will come away to Niger in September, and Uganda needs to win this game and hope for a loss for Tanzania to mathematically advance.

Cranes need a 0-1 victory away from home and Tanzania to fall to the desert foxes by the same score or worse to progress.

Uganda and Tanzania will be on the same points, 7, and with a similar goal difference but a better goal-scoring ratio will see Cranes qualify.

See, all is not lost as the Cranes still have a chance to show their colour and shine ‘Twaake’ with the big boys at the AFCON finals.

Uganda’s sole win in the group came against Tanzania in their fourth game of the campaign, thanks to a late Rogers Mato goal.
