Despite internal conflicts, the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has been recognized for its outstanding performance in 2022, winning the Best Run Federation award at the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) awards gala.
UCA had a busy year with its national teams featuring in over 12 international competitions, including the U-19 World Cup, the Africa Cup, and the East African T20 Cup.
The Baby Cricket Cranes finished a respectable 13th out of 16 nations at the U-19 World Cup, while the Victoria Pearls won a series against Nepal during their visit to Asia.
UCA also hosted the second round of the Challenge League B in Kampala, with the Cricket Cranes managing three wins out of five games.
The Cricket Cranes later won the inaugural Africa Cup in South Africa and finished the year as East African T20 Cup Champions in Kigali.
The Victoria Pearls also had a successful year, winning the four-nation tournament in Nairobi in December but in between they had featured at the annual Kwibuka tournament in Kigali with a tour to Namibia starting the international season for them.
In addition to its on-field success, UCA also made a change in CEO in 2022, with Martin Ondeko exiting and Alan Mugume taking over in July.
The organization also continued to push for the performance of its teams, and was recognized by the National Council of Sports (NCS) as one of the priority sports in the financial year that started in July 2022.
Despite the internal conflicts that have shaken UCA in recent times, the organization’s good solid performance in 2022 was duly rewarded by USPA at the awards gala.
