The Uganda Women’s National Football Team, also known as the Crested Cranes, will be making their return to the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) after a 22-year absence.


The team was drawn into Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.


The Crested Cranes last appeared at the AWCON in 2000, when they finished third in their group with four points.


They will be hoping to do better this time around and advance to the knockout stage.



The team’s coach, George Lutalo, has said that he is confident that his team can challenge for a spot in the quarterfinals.


He has praised the team’s preparations for the tournament and said that they are ready to compete against the best teams in Africa.


The AWCON will be held in Morocco from July 2 to July 23, 2022. The defending champions are Nigeria, who have won the tournament a record 11 times.


Full 2022 Women’s AFCON Group Stage Draw:

Group A: Morocco, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Uganda

Group B: Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia, Togo

Group C: Nigeria, South Africa, Burundi, Botswana
