Uganda Crested Cranes head coach George William Lutalo has assured his side that they will not be intimidated by their tough group at the Total Energies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Uganda was drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal. All three teams are ranked higher than Uganda in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings. However, Lutalo believes that his team is capable of causing an upset.

“We have to represent our country well. The draw was made and the teams we shall face are good teams. But we shall be ready to face them,” Lutalo said.

“We have been training hard and we are confident that we can compete with the best teams in Africa.”Uganda qualified for the tournament after final qualification opponents Kenya withdrew from the competition.Team captain Ruth Aturo echoed Lutalo’s sentiments, insisting that the team will fight for everything to make it to great heights.“As Ugandans, we shall be determined to perform our best,” Aturo said.“We know that we are up against tough opposition, but we are not going to give up without a fight.”The Crested Cranes will open their campaign against Burkina Faso on July 3. They will then face Morocco on July 6 and Senegal on July 9.The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.Courtesy photos
