Let me start by complimenting our senior National teams both men and women for a job well done in 2022.

Without a doubt, they excelled despite what has now become the norm in rugby circles, lack of facilities, sometimes inept organization, and constant bickering.

Some officials have also been relatively competent and deserve to be reelected. Below are my picks and why they should be considered ahead of the March 2023 Uganda Rugby Union polls.

President URU:

Given the lineup of candidates interested, I would honestly say “afadahli” Tunchu. The incumbent Godwin Kayangwe is the man for the job.

Despite his flaws like any other human being, he ranks far ahead of his rumoured opponents led by former Kyadobdo Chairman Rugby Club Philip Kiboijana.

Vice President (Technical):

Zeno has all it takes to bring sanity to that department. If Zeno Owora Othieno is not a familiar name to you, then you don’t have a seat in the Uganda rugby fraternity.

The Kyambogo rugby club director is a young, outspoken, and honest, Ugandan rugby member and the game will definitely be at a better place with him on board.

Secretary:

Peter Odong, has proved to be competent and has changed and done a lot in the areas of accountability and deserves another term.

With his corporate skills in handling things thanks to his Human Resource expertise, the current Secretary will open more doors for the fraternity.

Treasurer:

Claude Rutayisire. He is a “new kid” on the rugby block in administration. He is serious about financial issues and also has a stable income.

He is known to be flexible and hangs out in all rugby clubs despite being a member of KOBs and Legends by default.

Eastern Regional:

Ducan Kirya has proved to be a very useful contact from the land of wise men. He should be brought on board to exhaust his connections.

The former Walukuba Babarians Director and now Eastern region head is a level headed man who had one of the best 7s circuits of the just concluded edition.

Men’s National Team manager:

Due to public demand, James Odomel should take over that position as the rugby family respects him and he returns the favour.

With the rapport he has with players, officials, and fans, I bet my neck if you can name another suitable candidate.

More info to be released soon by yours truly Director of Sabotage and Malice sports Uganda.
