The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) is set to host the FIBA 3×3 Africa Youth Nations League from August 5th to 11th, 2024, at the Lugogo Hockey Pitch in Kampala.
This high-stakes tournament serves as the sole qualification pathway to the U23 World Cup, scheduled for September 2024 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Uganda will compete against South Africa, Algeria, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, and Benin for a coveted spot in the U23 World Cup. Hamza Nyambogo Mnemo, Director of 3×3 format at FUBA and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the tournament’s significance as a platform to showcase talent and elevate the sport.
The FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League is structured into “sextuples,” with each sextuple comprising six competition days. The top teams from each sextuple, along with the host nation (Mongolia) and reigning champions (USA men and Netherlands women), will qualify for the U23 World Cup. Other countries will compete for the remaining 20 spots based on their final standings in the Nations League.
FIBA aims to foster regular high-level competition through the Youth Nations League, providing valuable experience for players and national federations.
FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi urged Ugandans to rally behind their teams as they strive for World Cup qualification.
Tickets for the event are priced at UGX 10,000 for general admission and UGX 25,000 for VIP. Hamza Mnemo, a seasoned FIBA 3×3 Technical official, leads the organizing committee.
