The Uganda U-18 Women’s Football National Team, have outclassed Burundi with a 7-0 win in a game played at Azam Complex.
Uganda got their first goal through midfielder Agnes Nabukenya who scored a sweet header off Sharifah Nakimera‘s corner kick in the fifth minutes.
Speed merchant Kamiyat Naigaga doubled the lead when she received a long ball from Krusum Namutebi which was miscalculated by the last defender giving Naigaga a chance to dribble freely and put the ball in the right top corner.
Striker Brenda Munyana missed two clear chances inside the box to stretch the lead for Uganda before the break.
Second half
In the very first minute of the second half, captain Phionah Nabulime released Naigaga who smartly beat the goalkeeper Ariella Umurerwa to score the third goal and her second on the day.
Leading by example, Phionah Nabulime stretched Uganda’s lead with her weaker left foot when she received a low cross from substitute Allen Nassazi inside the box and hit the ball into the back of the net.
After an hour played, substitute Allen Nassazi was released by Phionah Nabulime and Nassazi ran and smartly beat the goalkeeper to make it 5-0 for Uganda.
One minute later, substitute Shamusa Najjuma scored the fifth goal with a low curling shot off Phionah Nabulime’s sweet pass that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Burundi were awarded a penalty after Sharifah Nakimera fouled inside the box and Rukiya Bizimana hit the ball outside in what was Burundi’s best chance of the game.
It was raining goals as Shamusa Najjuma scored the seventh goal and her second on day when she received a long cross from Charity Katusiime, hit the goal post before scoring from the rebound.
The big win for Uganda takes them top of the table on same points (9) points with hosts Tanzania but Uganda has more five goal difference.
In the other game of the day, Ethiopia beat Zanzibar 6-1 in an early kick off played at Azam Complex.
Uganda will play the last game of the tournament on Friday 04th August, 2023 against host Tanzania and a draw will be enough for Uganda to lift the inaugural CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship title.
