Uganda women’s badminton team will be among the four fighting for a gold medal when team events of the Thomas and Uber Cup come to a climax today in Cairo, Egypt.
The Ladies defeated Algeria 3-0 and qualified for the All Africa teams championship final to be played this afternoon before action switches to individual events.
To reach the finals, Uganda registered an unbeaten run defeating Nigeria 4-1, and Egypt 4-1 thus qualifying for the Semi-finals.

Their opponent is also unbeaten thanks to victories over Cameroon 5-0, Algeria 3-2, and Mauritius 3-2, before defeating Nigeria 3-2 in the semi-finals.
Team Uganda will be facing players like Johanita Scholtz who is Africa’s number 2 with 1590 points, only behind Africa’s number 1 Shamika Fadilah from Uganda with 1614.
The two are fighting for the 2024 Olympic slot in the women’s singles hence making this afternoon’s encounter an interesting one.

While talking to Nnalubaale Sports, William Kabindi the badminton head coach said the women’s team has played very well to reach this stage and is ready for the task ahead.
“We want to win at least a gold medal so that we can represent Africa in Thomas and Uber final in China plus getting points for the Olympic Games,” Kabindi added.
On the side of the men’s team, Uganda lost all its games and have now shifted their focus to individual events.
