Ugandan Athletes Win Big at World Athletics Championships

Ugandan athletes won two gold medals and two bronze medals at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The gold medalists were Joshua Cheptegei in the 10,000 meters and Victor Kiplangat in the marathon.

Cheptegei and Kiplangat each received a prize of $70,000, which is about 260 million shillings.

Stephen Kissa finished fifth in the marathon despite enduring an unfortunate fall and received $11,000 (40 million shillings).

Peruth Chemutai finished seventh in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase and received $6,000 (22 million shillings).

Halimah Nakaayi finished eighth in the 800 meters and received $5,000 (18 million shillings).

The Ugandan contingent, which had 20 athletes, finished third in Africa and 11th overall in the world.
