The Uganda Rugby Sevens Calendar is making her final stop this weekend in Bugembe, Jinja for the Kyabazinga 7s.
The Stanbic Black Pirates and the Black Pearls, both teams based at the Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere will be looking to do the bare minimum to attain their destiny i.e. Pirates win their second-ever National 7s title, while Pearls make it three in a row.
The Pirates stand 11 points ahead of the next best men’s team, Platinum Credit Heathens and the Pearls are 6 points ahead of the next best chasers, the Avengers.
A cup semi-final will see the Pirates put Champagne on ice for the celebrations to come while the Pearls only need to finish third this weekend to ascend to glory.
The Pirates need to progress from the group that has them pitted against the hot and cold Toyota Buffaloes, the Elgon Wolves, and Kyambogo.
If they make it through, barring any last-minute aberrations, they’ll face either the winner or first runner-up in Group C for the quarterfinal.
The most tense that it can get for the Pirates is to lose that quarterfinal game and invoke prayers for a victory in the 5th place playoff.
The Heathens will certainly be hoping for that, but after that Challenge Cup appearance in Tooro 7s, why even bother!?
Both the Pearls and Pirates are reigning National 15s champions in their respective divisions and should things go like they are meant to go, we shall have double champions in Bweyogerere again and we will be looking forward to partying like a pirate.
