Uganda’s child prodigy Sir Joseph Sebatindira is set to travel to Qatar on Sunday to take part in the World Table Tennis Youth Contender tourney that gets underway on 22nd January in Doha.
The 9-year-old will enter the competition as the defending champion having outwitted everyone in last year’s edition in Cairo, Egypt.
By winning that edition, Sebatindira became the first Ugandan ever to bag a Gold medal and also the first to earn the World Champion title. He will be upbeat to retain his bragging rights.
Like in Egypt, the sensation will once again play in the U11 and U13 categories. He is set to face some of the up and coming youngsters like Rabeah Al-Kuwari who he will face in the U11 category.
With a World ranking of 635 and 74 points to his name, Al-Kuwari is ranked No.1 in this category. Sebatindira meanwhile is ranked 2nd in this particular category with a World ranking of 861 and 36 points.
In the U13 category, Sebatindira is ranked last out of the ten confirmed players. Nonetheless, he will fancy his chances.
For all these future stars, a prize money of USD 1000 is up for grabs.
Action gets underway on Monday at the Lusail Sports Arena, Doha and it will be live on the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youtube Channel and other TV Channels.
