Uganda’s She Cranes suffer narrow defeat to South Africa in Netball World Cup

The She Cranes, Uganda’s national women’s netball team, suffered a narrow 52-50 defeat to hosts South Africa at the ongoing 2023 Netball World Cup on Thursday.

The She Cranes had a slow start to the game, losing the first quarter 16-11 and the second quarter 17-8. They trailed 33-19 at halftime.

However, the She Cranes came out firing in the second half, winning the third quarter 17-8 and the fourth quarter 14-11.

Mary Nuba Cholhok and Shadiah Nassanga led the She Cranes with 29 and 21 goals, respectively. Margaret Baagala sat out the game due to malaria.

Despite the defeat, the She Cranes left the Ugandan fans in the stands proud of their fight and character.

They will now await a yet-to-be-determined opponent in Sunday’s classification match, which will determine who finishes fifth and sixth.
