The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has confirmed that the U16 Uganda National teams (men and women) will take part in the FIBA U16 Africa Championships set to take place in Monastir, Tunisia from July 14-23, 2023.
The teams have been undergoing training at the YMCA, Wandegeya and Nakasero Primary school under the coaches, Michael Seger and John Omondi.
The Junior Silverbacks attained their spot in the championship after winning the Fiba Zone Five Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, in June.
“The success that we registered in Kigali, Rwanda during the qualifiers last month ignited a belief in the players that we belong to the big stage and they are ready for the challenge ahead in Tunisia,” FUBA General Secretary Hudson Ssegamwenge said in a statement.
“I am confident that the teams will qualify for the U17 world championships due next year,” he added.
The teams will depart for Monastir on July 12, 2023 aboard Emirates Airlines. To qualify for next year’s world championships, the teams will need to finish among the top teams in the FIBA U16 Africa Championships.
