UPDF FC picked up their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at Kakyeka Stadium on Friday.

Veteran striker Samuel Kayongo Ssekamate struck in the 67th minute, giving the Army side a decisive breakthrough.

The visitors had to dig deep after defender Christopher Kamagu was sent off with ten minutes to play, but they held firm to frustrate Mbarara’s late push.

The result was a welcome response after UPDF’s 2–0 defeat to Express on opening day, and they will hope it sparks momentum in the weeks ahead.

For the Ankole Lions, it was another disappointing outing. After drawing 1–1 with Police FC in their opener, they now sit on just a point from two matches.

On a night of few chances, Ssekamate’s experience and UPDF’s resilience made all the difference.
