Uganda Cricket national female side, Victoria Pearls registered a brilliant start at the 2022 Kwibuka edition with a six-wicket win over the hosts Rwanda in the opening match.

Rwanda won the toss and elected to bat first but fell to a highly character-filled Uganda, who made run-scoring very difficult as the hosts were bundled out for 68 in 19 overs.

The guests’ stars with the ball were; Sarah Akiteng, Consy Aweko and Evelyn Anyipo whom picked two wickets each.

In the chase, Kevin Awino and Leona Babirye went in quick succession but a 47-runs partnership between Janet Mbabazi who finished with 19 runs and Gloria Obukor on 34 runs ensured that the game was safe for Uganda.

Gloria Obukor was the stand-out batter on her debut for Victoria Pearls as they started their campaign comfortably.

In the other games defending champions, Kenya defeated Botswana by 35 runs and Nigeria defeated newcomers Brazil by eight wickets.

Uganda was able to overcome Rwanda but they failed the Kenyan test on Friday as they went down fighting, losing the game by three wickets.
