Vipers SC returned to winning ways in the Uganda Premier League on Friday, defeating Soltilo Bright Stars 2-0 at the Kavumba Recreation Center.

The Venoms had drawn to SC Villa and Mbarara City in their previous two matches, but they put on a much-improved performance against Bright Stars.

Vipers struggled to find the back of the net in the first half, but they broke the deadlock in the 49th minute through Karim Watambala, whose shot was deflected past Bright Stars goalkeeper Derrick Were.

The defending champions doubled their lead four minutes later through Bright Anukani, who headed in from close range after a cross from Abdul Lumala.

Vipers had several chances to extend their lead in the second half, but they could not add to their tally. However, they remained solid in defense and secured a comfortable victory.

Vipers coach Leonard Neiva was pleased with his team’s performance.

“We lived up to the task,” Neiva said.

“We created a lot of chances but we utilized a few. But we will improve that. What is important is that we won after going two games earlier without a win. We shall build on this in our next games.”

The result sees Vipers move up to fourth in the table with 11 points, four behind leaders Kitara. Bright Stars remain in 13th place with two points.
