Wananchi (M) Beat City Lions 5-1, Top National Hockey League Table

Wananchi defeated City Lions 5-1 over the weekend to move three points clear of fellow title contenders Weatherhead in the National Hockey League (Men’s division).

The defending champions entered the game level on points with Weatherhead, who were out of action, and they were able to convincingly see off their opponents.

Jordan Achaye scored two goals, while James Larombi, Shafiq Byamukama, and Okello each added one while Ojok got the consolation for City Lions.

The win saw Wananchi dislodge Weatherhead from the top of the table, although Weatherhead have played one game less.

Rockets Keep Up with Top Two

Rockets made sure to keep tabs with the top two as they defeated Weatherhead Historicals 5-1.

Frank Wambalya opened the scoring in the 17th minute, before Oyugi scored a brace. Singwire and Ramathan also got on the score sheet for Rockets.

Vincent Kasasa, the former Weatherhead coach, scored a consolation goal for the Historicals in the 57th minute.

Makerere Suffer Defeat

The weekend did not go very well for Makerere. Their men’s side was edged 2-1 by Badgers.

Hamya opened the scoring for Makerere in the opening minute, but Badgers were able to mount a comeback thanks to the goals of Oryem and Amanya in the 45th and 59th minutes respectively.

That win saw Badgers leapfrog Makerere into the sixth position.
