Kampala Queens FC confirmed the signing of Catherine Nagadya yesterday 11th July, 2023 from Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club on a three-year employment contract.

Nagadya is the sixth recruitment after the signing of Fazila Ikwaput, Samalie Nakacwa, Hadijah Nandago, Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Patience Nabulobi.

The teenager is one of the most exciting talents in the country and she will play the next three seasons with the Queens of Soccer, but what’s she adding to the team?

The pacy winger, Catherine Nagadya has developed into an impressive and immaculate player especially at her recent club Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC.

Nagadya rose to the scene in the 2018/19 season when she helped She Makerere to beat Lady Doves 2-0 in Lugogo to lift the FUFA Women’s Cup at the age of 14.

The attacker has gradually developed her undoubted abilities and talent and she is now arguably one of the best footballers in the women’s league.

Competition for places at Kampala Queens

With a big number of players having a similar style of play, many would think that she may not get regular time at her new team but hold on, Nagadya’s performance and work rate, makes her one of the top players at the club.

The 18yr old will fight for first team place with Fazila Ikwaput, Elizabeth Nakigozi, Margret Kunihira, Resty Nanziri, Shakirah Nyinagahirwa, Grace Aluka, Sophia Nakiyinji, Zainah Nandede and Lillian Mutuzo who all play at the forward positions.

However, Catherine Nagadya’s numbers are convincing as a top player. She at least scored or assisted in each and every game she played in the league last season.

The teenager netted seven goals and registered twelve assists in the 2022/23 FUFA Women Super League, the most goal involvements by a player per minute.

Last season, Nagadya captained Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC to its maiden FUFA Women’s Cup title when she scored the only and winning goal against She Maroons and she was also named the tournament’s MVP.

Nagadya might not have the qualities of a center forward but she’s a very direct and intelligent forward who will at least score, assist or be involved in a goal nearly every game.

It may be tricky to believe that an 18yr old player is currently the third best forward at Kampala Queens FC, but Catherine Nagadya’s contribution in the concluded season, ranks her top ahead of all forwards apart from Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Fazila Ikwaput.

From contributing eleven goals in 2021/22 season to seventeen goals in the concluded season, Catherine Nagadya’s numbers in goal contribution keeps on growing every season.

With the quality of good players at Kampala Queens FC, Nagadya is likely to become a threat to every opponent’s defense.

Catherine Nagadya is one of only a few players in the country that bring forward such an electrifying style of play, and make attacking football fun to watch.

Catherine Nagadya’s National team career

On Friday 7th July, 2023, Catherine Nagadya scored her first goal for the senior national team on her debut at the age of 18 years and 64 days when Uganda defeated Tanzania 3-1 in an international friendly game in Lugogo.

Nagadya has won COSAFA Women U-17 and CECAFA Women U-17 in 2019, two FUFA Women’s Cup titles, MVP FUFA Women’s cup in 2023, among others.

The flair, the panache, everything about Catherine Nagadya speaks volumes of how good she is as a player, and how good she wants to look while playing. She’s a proven player on the local scene at only 18 years.
