Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) will climb to the top of the table in the Women’s National Hockey League if they defeat Wananchi-HDF.

Currently occupying the second position, KHC will take on the underdogs in this specific encounter on Saturday at the Hockey grounds in Lugogo.

On 13 points, they will dislodge current table-toppers Weatherhead who are out of action this weekend.

KHC trail the leaders by 3 points, but with their better goal difference, a win will see them topple Weatherhead.

The Swans’ previous match was a convincing win that saw them dismantle Deliverance Church with a 6-0 win last Saturday.

Lucy Akello, the club’s top scorer with 9 goals was on the score sheet that day and her good firm will be handy as her side KHC seek to climb top of the table.

The encounter is the only Saturday game in the women’s division, but on Sunday, Wananchi will seek redemption, and not fall further back in the title race.

The league record winners suffered a setback last weekend when they were forced to draw 0-0 against Weatherhead’s sister club, the Historicals.

It was a result that demoted them to the third position, but as they take on defending champions Deliverance Church this weekend, they will look to stay closer to the top two.

Wananchi are the league’s highest top scorers with 43 goals, but they fired blanks last Saturday.

But, Wananchi have a chance to reclaim the second spot if KHC falters in their game. The side sits third with 12 points.

Should Weatherhead lose or draw and Wananchi wins, the latter will go second as they’re behind KHC by a single point.

Deliverance Church are positioned fifth currently with 8 points while HDF sits fourth with 10 points.
