YMCA coach Michael Kalyesubula is not surprised that his team beat Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) 2-0 in the return leg of the University Football league on Thursday in Buwambo.
“This was planned for,” Kalyesubula said.
“This is the first win at home and we are happy for it. This is the push we needed to win. We dedicated this win to our principal Dr.Herbert Mukasa and management for the support they have offered in sports.”

“IUIU played well but we knew their strong point. Our goalkeeper, Peter Isabirye, was playing his second game but had a good day in office.”
Pablo Kiwanuka gave YMCA the lead through a free kick in the first half and Benom Kigenyi doubled the lead late in the second half.
The victory saw YMCA move to third in Group B with four points. MUBS top with six points while IUIU is second with six points then Victoria University is bottom with one point.

However, IUIU assistant coach Mubarak Kagawa says they were unlucky.
“I will not say the chances of qualifying are done,” Kagawa said.
“But we still have a chance to win our last two games. We didn’t play badly but we were just unfortunate since we failed to convert our chances and the opponent did so. We promise to bounce back.”

On a rather sad note, the Friday encounter that was supposed to be played between Ndejje and Kyambogo was postponed following the unfortunate death of Ndejje coach Raymond Timothy Komakech (RIP).
