2026 FIFA World Cup | Group L | Tuesday June 23, 2026
- England 0-0 Ghana
Ghana produced a disciplined defensive display to hold England to a goalless draw in their FIFA World Cup Group L clash at Gillette Stadium near Boston on Tuesday, moving a step closer to the knockout stages.
The Black Stars, coached by Carlos Queiroz, frustrated England throughout the contest with a well-organised backline that denied Thomas Tuchel’s side clear chances.
England dominated possession with 78 percent and managed 19 attempts on goal, but struggled to break down Ghana’s resolute defence. Their best chance arrived in the 86th minute when Bukayo Saka’s low effort was brilliantly saved by stand-in goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Substitute Nico O’Reilly then headed against the crossbar before captain Harry Kane blasted the rebound over from close range.
Ghana also threatened on the counterattack, with substitute Prince Adu causing problems in the second half, although neither side could find the breakthrough. The draw leaves both teams on four points from two matches and firmly in contention for a place in the last 16.
For England, the stalemate extended an unwanted record as the Three Lions registered their 13th goalless draw at a FIFA World Cup the most by any nation in tournament history.
All the remaining matches of the FIFA World Cup will be broadcast live on DStv across four dedicated channels.
