Uganda will yet again have to deal with continental giants Algeria in the qualifications of the 2026 World Cup, a repeat of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Uganda is pooled in Group G, set to battle it out with nations like Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana, and the Horn of Africa nation, Somalia.

And, head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has given his assessment of the group, asserting the team can have a good show against Algeria.

“Algeria are favorites to make it from the group, however, in the ongoing AFCON qualifiers we have shown that we can compete against them.”

“We can make a difference and shall be in tough competition against them,” the Serbian added.

Micho also provided an insight of what to expect with the rest of the teams in the group.

“In 2015, we played against Guinea and beat them at home it’s a tough but playable team from West Africa.”

“Then Mozambique has a Portuguese style of play, very competitive team that has qualified for the AFCON 2023.”

“We have 2017 competitors Botswana and we have beaten them home and away in the past.”

“Finally, our CECAFA brothers Somalia that have in the past surprised and beaten Zimbabwe in the world qualifiers in the past.”

For the first time the FIFA World Cup will include 48 teams, an expansion by 16 compared with the previous seven tournaments.

CAF teams are drawn into nine groups of six teams. The winner of each group will directly qualify to the World Cup, while the four best group runners-up will participate in play-offs to determine which team will advance to theĀ inter-confederation play-offs.
