Uganda Cranes return with Morocco Friendly matches

Uganda Cranes’ preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will gather momentum next month with two international friendly matches in Morocco.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that the Cranes will face Tanzania on June 5 before taking on Madagascar on June 8 in Marrakech.

The matches come shortly after Uganda learnt its opponents for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, where the Cranes were drawn in Group H alongside Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania.

Although Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have already qualified automatically as tournament hosts, the three nations will still take part in the qualifiers to maintain competitiveness ahead of the finals.

For Uganda’s technical team, the friendlies will provide an important chance to assess players, improve squad competition and continue building a team capable of competing strongly at AFCON and in future CAF and FIFA competitions.

The June matches will also mark the Cranes’ return to action after a frustrating March international window.

Uganda had arranged friendly matches against Bahrain and Mauritania in Turkey, but both games were cancelled because of security concerns linked to political instability in the region.

The clash against Tanzania is expected to attract added attention given the growing rivalry between the East African neighbours, who will also co-host AFCON 2027.

Madagascar, one of the continent’s steadily improving teams, should provide another tough test for the Cranes.
