Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has underlined the team didn’t deserve the 2-1 defeat to Algeria in the qualifier of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
The Cranes suffered at the hands of Mohamed Amoura while Fahad Bayo netted the consolation later on at the Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
‘They have applied themselves very well, we had the chance to Mato hitting the post, and we scored that goal. We stretched over all limits, but it was not meant to be,” Micho noted.
“When you look at everything, I believe that we are fully aware that as a team with young players, we have no right to make mistakes because of this level of international competition.
“Mistakes are extremely expensive, and we have really learnt the hardest possible way.
“I believe we deserve much more from the match. However, we didn’t get it, and I believe that we have learnt the hardest way, and we have no right to commit these mistakes in times ahead of us.
“The match against Niger is a crucial game where a win can bring us to qualify to the AFCON.”
As Algeria had confirmed their qualification for the tournament finals, the Cranes headed into the game well aware of Tanzania’s 1-0 victory over Niger in the earlier group F encounter.
In the final match, Uganda will need to beat Niger and pray Algeria defeats Tanzania for a chance of progress.
