Uganda’s National women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, have got off their preparations for the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket at Africa Bible University in Lubowa.

The team started training today following the postponement. They were supposed to start on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jamila Nansikombi, Jannon Otto, Melissa Akullu, Maria Najjuma, and Claire Lamunu are the other foreign-based players who will link up with the team later.

The summoned team has 19 players including nine foreign-based players and ten locally-based stars.

According to reports, the team will train for four days a week before entering camp two weeks before the tournament, slated for Kigali, Rwanda.

It should however be noted that training started without head coach Alberto Antuna who is expected to jet in on July 10.

His assistant coaches Nicholas Natuhereza and Mavita Ali are currently in charge and taking the team through its paces.

The Gazelles are pitted in arguably the group of death, C alongside record champions Senegal and Mali.
