The Buganda Kingdom is set to reinstate boxing competitions to its calendar with the help of the Uganda Boxing Federation in a move aimed at helping the sport grow.

The two institutions are in the final bend of restoring the Bika bya Buganda boxing tournament as well as the Buganda Masaza Cup boxing championship.

With news confirming boxing reinstatement in the 2024 Buganda Kingdom Sports Calendar, Nnalubaale Sports contacted the UBF president for more details.

Boxing is scheduled for 9th to 16th November 2024

“We are going to decide if we are to start with Bika or Masaza depending on the numbers of boxers and their lineage that will come through to register, UBF head Moses Muhangi explained.

He also hinted at a meeting with the Kingdom to agree on several specialties before the unveiling of the road map, tentatively next month.

It should be remembered that the last Bika bya Buganda tournament was held in 2011 with Mmamba Clan winning the title before UBF administrative wranglers derailed the tournament.

Now, with sanity back at the local boxing governing body and a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Buganda Kingdom in place, higher chances are, that all is set to have Kingdom boxing back.
