The bell rings once again as the Uganda Boxing Champions League returns for its thrilling Season 4 this Saturday, May 3, at Club Obligato.

With an atmosphere promising raw talent, fierce rivalries and career-defining moments, this season is set to captivate boxing enthusiasts across the nation.

Dubbed as the premier platform for Uganda’s amateur boxers to earn their stripes and eventually step into the professional arena, the Boxing Champions League continues to grow in stature.

Stars like Muzamir Ssemuddu, Owen Kibira, and Raskara Paul have already made the leap to the professional ranks after commanding performances in previous seasons.

Yet, the league remains a vibrant proving ground, one that culminates in a championship title fight on December 26, 2025 with a belt on the line for the most tenacious fighter.

This Saturday, Week One opens with a blockbuster headline bout, a much-anticipated rematch between Kololo High School’s boxing prodigy Nerrick Tumusiime and Mutajjazi Boxing Club’s Mutaasa Ashraf.

Their rivalry already seared into league history after Tumusiime’s TKO win in Round Two last season, reignites under the bright lights of Club Obligato.

Tumusiime, a Senior Five student, first entered the Champions League in 2023 through the youth division and quickly rose through the elite ranks.

Despite juggling school and competition, often fighting consecutive bouts due to academic commitments, he emerged victorious in the 2024 Light Middleweight Open Championship, defeating none other than Owen Kibira.

Nerrick Tumusiime and Mutaasa Ashraf

Mutaasa, who transitioned from cricket to boxing after finishing high school, enters the ring with a point to prove. Determined to validate his sporting switch, Mutaasa didn’t mince words during the weigh-in:

“I am going to discipline Nerrick. Fans are not the ones who are going to be in the ring.”

But Tumusiime, never one to back down, countered with his signature bravado:

“The discipline I have is outside the ring in the ring, I don’t have it. Some ran away with scars and Mutaasa too has come to get his wounds. But on a lighter note, after it all, I will feed him.”

While the Tumusiime-Mutaasa rematch of last season will headline the night, the undercard is stacked with tantalizing matchups, each carrying its own share of pride and ambition:

Some of the other match-ups of the day include;

  • Bantamweight: Balyegesa Benon Vs Hakim Lubega

Lubega, the reigning Youth Champion, enters with quiet confidence:

“I don’t have many words. I’m a Youth Champion, he will have to ask those where I came from.”

Benon, however, sees this as a chance to make a statement:

“I have met him a couple of times. As a champion, he will get to know what I’m made of, I’m oozing to smoke him.”

  • Featherweight 57kg Elite: Kassim Mulungi Bs Leon Kiggundu

A clash of mutual respect, yet high expectations:

Kiggundu (Lukanga): “I respect him, we have met.”

Mulungi (East Coast): “I have come right back in Season 4. Just come tomorrow, get a front seat and the rest will be for you, my fans to take home.”

Fatumah Nabikolo

Other matchups to watch include:

  • Middleweight: Walugembe Emmanuel (Boggie) Vs Ojok Alfred (Kyanja)
  • Featherweight: Mukiibi Bashir (Nakawa) Vs Kimuli Henry (Mutajjazi)
  • Light Welterweight: Kaddu Julius (Katabi) Vs Farahat Manirola (Lukanga)
