Uganda’s most celebrated boxer at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Aziz “Ringo” Abdul—grandson of the late Idi Amin—has lost his heavyweight quarterfinal bout to towering Englishman Damar Thomas.
In the fight held at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), Thomas was dominant from the start. His control was clear by the third round, when a headbutt by Abdul was deemed a step too far following three prior illegal infringements, resulting in his disqualification.
The other Ugandan boxer in action last night was flyweight Angel Katushabe, who was stopped by England’s Ruby White via a unanimous 5–0 decision.
These losses bring an end to Uganda’s boxing journey at the Games, where the nation was represented by six pugilists, including Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Kemis, Emily Nakalema, and Alfred Ojok.
