Team Uganda has bagged a second Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as the Gazelles settled for second following a 21-11 loss to Australia in the women’s 3×3 basketball competition.
Uganda’s first medal, Silver too, had come from sensational para-swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe two days earlier.
Melissa Akullu, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi, and Perus Nyamwenge have won over hearts at the Scottish Event Campus with gutsy and stylish performances which paid off with medals around their necks.

Well, Coach Nick Natuhereza’s charges came up just short against the much bigger and better-shooting Australia, who had also won the group encounter involving the two earlier.
The Gazelles left with their name written in bold, having beaten Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Kenya, Tonga, and New Zealand to claim Uganda’s first-ever Silver for a team sport at the Games.

The success comes with a token, and the team will share the instant 50 million Uganda Shillings that the Ministry of Education and Sports and National Council of Sports pledged, together with a 3 million monthly stipend also in line until the next games.
