The number of Ugandan athletes securing basketball stints in the United States continues to grow, with Martina Anyango as the latest addition to the roster.
Anyango has officially joined the Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball team, which represents Texas Tech University and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I.
The big move was confirmed by Lady Raiders head coach Krista Gerlich, who officially announced the signing of Anyango for the 2026–27 season.
A towering center who had an outstanding season with Mukono-based UCU Lady Canons, Anyango is already residing in Lubbock.
The move follows her star performance in leading the Canons to the 2026 National Basketball League Championship, where she was named Playoffs Most Valuable Player after averaging a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double during the postseason.
In addition, the disciplined and hardworking Anyango earned honors as the championship’s Best Center, Top Rebounder, and a selection to the All-NBL Best Five Team.
The Lady Raiders officially kick off their season on Nov. 5 against Charlotte at the United Supermarkets Arena as they look to build on one of the most successful seasons in recent program history.
Picked 13th in the preseason poll a year ago, Texas Tech finished fourth in the Big 12 with a 26-8 overall record (including a 12-6 conference mark), culminating in the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
