Whenever the Uganda Badminton national team is named, there are names that always feature on the list, and Husina Kobugabe is one of them.
The local, continental, and global medalist, who has long been a mainstay on the team, has been away from the action for months due to a career-threatening injury.
Kobugabe opened up about her absence after many fans asked about her whereabouts following her missing several recent tournaments.
Addressing her situation, she shared: “One year ago today, I suffered an ACL injury that changed so much for me. I never expected an injury to become such a huge setback, not just physically, but mentally too. I was in pain, frustrated, and struggling in ways people couldn’t always see.”
The 2023 African Games gold and silver medalist stressed that the experience taught her how important it is, especially as an athlete, to condition your body, prioritize recovery, and take care of yourself beyond just training and competing.
“So if you’ve wondered why you haven’t seen me competing like before, this is why. I’m still on my journey back, still rebuilding, and taking it one step at a time. I can’t wait for what’s ahead,” she concluded.
The spirited player shared this update during the recently concluded badminton tournaments at Lugogo Indoor Arena, where Muzafaru Lubega and Gladys Mbabazi emerged as Uganda’s top performers.
