Day one of the 2026 Africa AirBadminton Championships kicked off on Wednesday at Aero Beach in Entebbe.
Uganda was eliminated from the team event after a 53-60 defeat to Burkina Faso in their opening tie, followed by a 60-47 loss to Mauritius. The Ugandan players are now shifting their focus to the individual events, which begin on September 18th.
The third edition of the Africa AirBadminton Championships will conclude on the 19th of this month, with 14 countries participating.
“Today has been a sad day. We lost two matches against Mauritius and Burkina Faso, which means we cannot proceed to the next round,” Team Uganda coach William Kabindi noted.

“However, I believe that every loss provides a learning opportunity. We have learned a lot, and I am confident we will perform much better in upcoming tournaments.”
Uganda will field players across all categories, men’s and women’s doubles and triples, with hopes of delivering a stronger performance than in the team events.
Player Tracy Naluwooza expressed gratitude for the experience and remains optimistic ahead of the individual matches and future competitions:
“AirBadminton is very different from standard indoor badminton, but it has been a great experience. I hope I’ve learned enough to perform better alongside my teammates in the upcoming encounters.”
