Ronald Rugumayo is in the zone. It is not a stretch to say that he is performing at the peak of his ability on the back of winning his first Uganda Professional Golf Open title at Uganda Golf Club early this month.
Last week in the Pro Tees, he once again dominated the field with closing rounds of 64 and 64 to win the tournament by a massive seven strokes at the par-71 Entebbe Club.
The soft-spoken golfer is among the headline entrants in the inaugural Pearl of Africa-Sunshine Development Tour competition that will tee off Thursday at Entebbe. It will start with a Pro-Am round on Wednesday before serious business swings into action the following day.
Rugumayo has already pocketed prize money of Shs 39m after emerging victorious in the Pro-Am, the Uganda Open, and the Pro Tees, but he is itching to do well in the POA-SunDev competition.
“My first two days in Entebbe last week were a challenge because of the emotions of winning the Open, but once I settled, it helped me play some very good golf,” Rugumayo observed.
Should he triumph in Entebbe, Rugumayo will have secured the rare feat of winning the last five events he has entered. Before the 2026 Uganda Open and Pro Tees, Rugumayo had prevailed in the Watoto Golf and UGC Ladies Open.
It will be a strong field in Entebbe that will include Celestine Nsanzuwera, Greg Snow, Dismas Indiza, Grace Kasango, Godwin Okoko, Sunday Olapade, and a host of South African professionals, including Eswatini female professional golfer Nobuhle Dlamini.
The inaugural Pearl of Africa-Sunshine Development Tour, whose purse is $20,000 (Shs 78,000,000), will also feature a Fun Village for guests.
