Uganda’s light heavyweight boxer Alfred Ojok painfully exited the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games following a 5-0 unanimous decision loss to England’s Dimeju Shittu.
After the referee raised Dimeju’s hand, a heartbroken Ojok sank to his knees at the Scottish Event Campus and broke into tears, despite cheers from the crowd appreciating a hard-fought contest.
“I tried my best to get this win. My dream was to bring home a gold medal to my mother,” Ojok told the media before breaking down. He later promised to build on the experience gained.
“This exposure will help me become a better boxer and raise my country’s flag high next time if given the opportunity. I am sorry, mother.”
Action now shifts to Emily Nakalema, who faces Australia’s Eve Bryson in a 65kg welterweight bout with a spot in the medal rounds at stake.

Uganda sent six pugilists to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Ibrahim Kemis has already been eliminated, Angel Katushabe is yet to fight, and Aziz Ringo is scheduled for Wednesday in a super heavyweight contest against Englishman Damar Thomas.
