Uganda’s Husnah Kukundakwe became the country’s first medalist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after an emphatic performance in the 100m Breaststroke final delivered a silver medal at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Husnah finished the race in 1:22.31 to take second behind England’s Brock Whiston, who won gold, while bronze went to fellow English swimmer Iona Winnifrith.
With this victory, Team Uganda’s co-captain led by example to become the nation’s first-ever aquatic sports medalist at the Commonwealth Games.
Swimming action continues today with Kirabo Namutebi, Gloria Muzito, Tendo Kaumi, Jordan Samula, and Jesse Ssengonzi taking to the pool.
Her teammates and supporters across Uganda will be hoping she has opened the floodgates for more hardware this week as the nation looks to add to its historic tally of 59 medals won since making its Games debut in 1954.
