FUFA Big League | Sunday | MD 23
- Buhimba United 1-0 Busoga United
Buhimba United have climbed to the summit of the FUFA Big League, delivering a statement of intent with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Busoga United on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
In a tightly contested match at the Kigaaya COU Playground, it was John Wesley Kisakye’s moment of brilliance that made the difference. The forward struck in the 20th minute, giving Buhimba United the early lead they fiercely defended until the final whistle.
That solitary goal not only secured three vital points but also propelled Buhimba to the top of the Big League standings, a position they hadn’t occupied this season until now.
The victory comes at a critical time, particularly as former table leaders, Blacks Power, found themselves idle over the weekend.
Without kicking a ball, the Lira-based side dropped to second place, now trailing Buhimba United who have 41 points from 22 matches.
Blacks Power, however, are still within touching distance, sitting just two points behind but with two games in hand, an advantage they will hope to capitalize on in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Buhimba’s triumph added to the woes of Busoga United, who remain entrenched in the relegation zone.
The Jinja-based side sits third from the bottom in the 15-team league, managing only 23 points from 22 outings. Their survival hopes are dwindling and Sunday’s result only deepened their troubles.
Elsewhere, another promotion hopeful, Gaddafi FC missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the leaders.
Playing away in Bukedea, Gaddafi surrendered a first-half lead to draw 1-1 against MYDA, a result that left them stuck in third place with 37 points.
A win would have drawn them level with Blacks Power on 39 points, but the slip means Gaddafi now faces an even steeper climb in the race for promotion.
