Uganda Cranes have received their pairing for the qualification playoff of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will take either Somalia or Tanzania in the Second Round of the qualification to the continental finals in Algeria.
Algerian legend Djamal Menad, top scorer and winner of 1990 AFCON with Algeria, was the draw assistant, joined by CAF Head of Competitions Khaled Nassar in Egypt, on Thursday.
The Cranes were exempted from the First Round of qualification due to the superior World and CECAFA rankings.
The First Round of the qualification (which Uganda is not part) will be played between June and July 2022.
The Pearl of Africa outfit has since 2011 qualified in all the CHAN finals (2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021).
However, they have never gone past the group stage, a representation of abysmal history in the competition.
In the most recent Cameroon edition, Uganda finished rock-bottom in Group C after collecting one point in three matches, scoring thrice and conceding seven.
They were locked in a barren stalemate with Rwanda, beaten by Togo 2-1 before getting humiliated by Morocco, 5-2.
