Crested Cranes star Sandra Nabweteme’s 2022/23 Season recap

Crested Cranes and Macabai Hadera FC forward Sandra Nabweteme finished the Ligat Al Women Isreal on a high.

On Monday 22nd May 2023, Nabweteme scored as her team beat Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem 3-1 in the last league game.

The former Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC was a free agent after leaving Icelandic club Thor/Ka Football Club in the January window.

The ‘girl from Katwe’ had a splendid performance in CECAFA 2022 with five goals in as many games as she guided Crested Cranes to lift their maiden title.

Nabweteme helped Cranes to qualify for WAFCON after two decades and netted one goal of the three Uganda scored in Morocco.

After WAFCON, the 2015 FUFA player of the year joined Isreal’s top-flight team Hapoel Petach Tikva last year as a free agent.

In the first round of the 2022/23 season, Nabweteme scored eight goals before leaving the club to join Maccabi Hadera FC.

At Maccabi, Nabweteme netted twice with her second goal for the club coming in on Monday this week.

In total, Nabweteme netted a total of 10 goals and 13 assists in 22 games she has played at both Hapoel Petach Tikva and Maccabi Hadera Fc.

In 2016, Nabweteme left Uganda and joined SWOSU (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) where she played for four years while pursuing her studies.

At SWOSU, Nabweteme scored 78 goals and registered 36 assists in the 81 games she played and she was also named in the Great American Conference (GAC) team of the decade.

In March 2021, she joined Thor/Ka which is located in Akureyri and features in the Iceland top-flight league Urvalsdeild Kvenna.

In 2022 Nabweteme joined Isreal’s Hapoel Petach Tikva in the top league before departing in early 2023 to join Maccabi Hadera Fc up to date.
