Dominant Milly Takali wins Queens of Chess Rapid Chess Tournament

Milly Takali emerged victorious at the fourth edition of the Queens of Chess Rapid Chess Tournament, held at Gloria Gardens in Namugongo, Uganda.

Takali, who narrowly missed qualifying for this year’s Olympiad, dominated the competition, going undefeated throughout the seven-round tournament.

Takali secured six wins and one draw, the stalemate coming against Margaret Musoke Nassiwa in the final round. Safinah Mugide who entered the competition as defending champion was among the players that fell prey to Takali.

Mugide and Woman Fide Master Ivy Amoko, the inaugural winner were pre tournament favourites, but none matched the eventual winner who won it with 7.5 points.

Takali becomes the fourth winner of this competition. Joan Ahereza with 7 points came second while Nassiwa with 6.5 completed the podium positions.

Mugide finished fifth, Amoko 11th while WFM Christine Namaganda, the other former winner, finished 9th.

Joyce Kabengano was a surprise package. Kabengano is a veteran, but she’s been out of the game for a long time. The rated 1641 came fourth with 6.5 points.

Woman Candidate Master Shakira Ampaire, winner of the National Championship came 6th while WFM Goretti Angolikin, another old timer ended the tournament placed 15th.

Hannah Zion Mawejje won the U20 category. She was followed by Mary Anne Namutebi and Sarah Nakalyowa in the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
