Entebbe City, the habitat of Uganda’s only International Airport has more to its offering and sports tourism is up there on the list.

Off Lake Victoria shores, the city is home to sports with several facilities including; a golf course, a cricket oval, soccer pitches, basketball courts, race tracks, rugby pitches and an indoor arena among others.

All the above mentioned sports disciplines do mingle with fish eating in one way or the other since a meal in Entebbe can’t be complete without fresh fish.

Nile Tilapia and Nile Perch are the most common species but others such as; cat fish, silver fish and lungfish are all part of the menu.

Today, allow us to focus on the Nile Perch locally known as Empuuta which triggers many saliva glands into action.

At places like Jassento Gardens, just adjacent Entebbe SS traffic lights and arguably the city’s number one fish centre, the experience starts with cleaning before cutting the big fish into small cubed pieces.

This is then followed by seasoning the Mpuuta with lemon, salt and other ingredients before the frying pan stage.

With a well lit hand built firewood stove and a huge frying pan fit to swallow about ten kilograms and more, the process gets into the final bend.

After minutes of deep frying the pieces turn golden. Since the Mpuuta is best enjoyed without any cutlery, you will be advised to wash your hands and get ready for a slap of the crunchy deliciousness which is served hot.

The platter comes with Mpuuta pieces and on the side, some salt, lime, a mix of tomatoes and onions commonly known as kachumbari but, its the cassava (boiled in banana leaves) that makes the meal complete.

And, if you’re a tourist, the Mpuuta is alternatively served with chips but done in a Ugandan-style to make you enjoy sports in Entebbe as a home away from home.

Allow us to leave you with a video down below of Kampala rugby fraternity as they clean two platters in record time in a zone marking, scramble and partitioning affair.
