As things are falling apart for the National Boxing Team, the Bombers at the ongoing Olympics qualiferis in Dakar, Senegal, back home, it was fireworks in the Uganda Boxing Champions at the New Obligato hangout.
The Saturday night event which had a couple of highlights both inside and outside the ring was graced by people from all walks of life notably; musician Grenade Official, and fashionista Abrayanz among others.
Well, all attention was on Week 10 main fight featuring new kid on the block, Khassim Murungi and Derrick Mubiru.
After a good display from both fighters and each corner convinced of victory, it went down to the judges.
The five ring judges had a 3:2 score in favor of Mubiru but the two judges (evaluator and observer) scored 2:0 in favor of Murungi, hence a 4:3 win for the City High student.
This was not received well by Mubiru’s camp as he landed heavier punches and dominated the fight thanks to his never-die atitutde.
Well, the experts decided otherwise and the eventful night ended on a controversial foot.
On a good note, before the drama, revellers enjoyed stoppages, knock downs, not forgetting the creative ring walk which had a traditional ritual dance spice of the Larakaraka dance.
KCCA Boxing Club member Samuel Ochan fed off his ancerstal spirits and cruised to a 5-0 victory past Trevor Mudenya from East Coast Boxing Club in the Bantamweight fight.
