The first round of the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League will come to a thrilling end on Saturday at the Old Kampala Sports Arena, with a series of mouthwatering fixtures expected to shape the title race.
Five matches are lined up, but all eyes will be on the blockbuster women’s clash between unbeaten giants Police HC and Prisons HC, a contest many are already calling the first round title decider.
Prisons HC, popularly known as the Lady Spears, head into the encounter sitting second of the standings with a perfect record and goal difference of +202. The wanders strengthened their stand in the top two with nine victories.

However, the defending champions Police HC are topping the standings. The law enforcers have a superior goal difference of +249 after a dominant Matchday 18 in which they scored 98 goals in victories over UPDF HC and Kyengeza HC thanks to Hilda Mary Abangit, Ato Ritah Recho and Royce Namutosi.
Saturday’s showdown promises a fascinating battle of styles. Police thrive on speed and relentless attacking play, often overwhelming opponents in the opening stages. Their depth has also been key, allowing them to maintain intensity throughout matches.
Prisons, meanwhile, rely on discipline and physicality. Captain Scovia Lamuno, attacker Abiria Kalsum and goalkeeper Brenda Adokorach will be central to their hopes as they seek revenge for April’s 32-24 defeat to Police in the UHF Champions League final.
The men’s fixture between Prisons HC and UPDF HC is equally enticing. Dubbed the “Battle of the Forces”, the clash comes with both sides firmly in the title hunt alongside Police HC.

Prisons led by brilliant players like Victor Obedmoth, Mark Okwakol, Dan Aboku and Denis Okwer enter the match in high spirits after emphatic wins over Nkajja HC and Uzalendo HC, while UPDF will be eager to build on 38-31win over Police on Matchday 17.
The last meeting between the two sides was decided by a single goal, with Prisons edging UPDF 32-31 in a thrilling encounter at Kibuli Handball Courts. Another close contest is expected as UPDF’s firepower that includes Francis Ongom, Jonathan Atandu,Bashir Kirani Mumbere, Allan Simiyu Munialo, Felix Mukunzi, Ivan Mwesigye, Gerald Pirwoth and Abel Winta Mukiibi comes up against Prisons’ organised defence and quick transition play.
UPDF HC are currently top and invincible, having won all their seven games just like Prisons HC. However the Army side have a superior goal difference of 112 compared to Prisons +79.

Action at Old Kampala begins with women fixtures as Wanainchi face Nkajja HC at midday before Kawanda SS take on Kyengeza HC at 2pm.
