Prisons Handball Club endured a difficult weekend as both their men’s and women’s teams suffered their first defeats of the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League season at Old Kampala Sports Arena.
The biggest heartbreak came in the men’s division, where Prisons threw away a six-goal halftime lead to lose 26-25 to UPDF HC in a dramatic encounter.
Prisons looked headed for another victory after dominating the first half. Their quick attacking play and solid defence earned them a comfortable 17-11 lead at the break, with Victor Obedmoth leading the charge with 10 goals. Walter Okot added seven goals while Amos Abesigamukama scored five.
But UPDF returned from halftime a transformed side, the army team tightened up defensively and gradually chipped away at the deficit. As Prisons struggled to maintain their early intensity, UPDF seized control and edged ahead in the closing moments to complete a remarkable comeback.
Felix Mukunzi and Daniel Comboni scored six goals each for UPDF, while Medard Twine added five and Vincent Tibamwenda contributed four in a victory that highlighted the side’s fighting spirit. For Prisons, it was a painful defeat after controlling much of the contest.
The women’s team also saw their unbeaten run come to an end after falling 32-26 to Police HC. Prisons matched Police for long periods in a closely contested game, but Police’s organised defence and disciplined play eventually made the difference.

The twin defeats brought an end to Prisons HC’s unbeaten start in both divisions and showed the growing competitiveness of this season’s league as teams prepare for the second round.
