Jackson Karyarugookwe carded 69nett over 18 holes to win the Stanbic Halfway Mug competition at the Uganda Golf Club, Kitante on Saturday.
The outgoing immediate captain of the club beat over 50 men to the top mug. Two-time Uganda Ladies Open champion Martha Babirye was also in commanding form, to win the ladies’ category with 69nett.
“I’m not into competitive golf anymore but the sport keeps me going, and keeps me in touch with people of similar interests,” Karyarugookwe stated.
“Golf is actually a game that should be played for healthy reasons because it’s a stress reliever,” he noted.
By the half-way mark, Grace Kabonero is still top of the UGC Order of Merit leaderboard on 26 points, one and nine points ahead of Harriet Kitaka and Martha Babirye who have amassed 25 and 17 points respectively.
In the men’s category it is Andrew Opio who won the men’s Group A on Saturday that is in the lead on 16 points, 4 and 6 points ahead of Derrick Muhumuza and Yong Kim respectively.
