Kyoga Avengers continued their perfect start to the Great Lakes Men’s T20 tournament while Mburo Blasters bounced back from defeat as Day five produced another entertaining double-header at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Coming off a loss to Kyoga Avengers on Day Four, Mburo responded with a spirited 20-run victory over Bunyonyi Warriors in the morning match.

Mburo’s batsmen laid the foundation for the win with an aggressive display that yielded 197 all out in 19.5 overs. Charles Musemeza scored 37 off 21 balls, Fahad Mutagana blasted 26 from just seven deliveries, while captain Riazat Ali Shah hammered 33 off 10 balls, including five sixes.

Yashashvi Joshi and David Wabwire each added 29 runs as Mburo pushed their total close to the 200-run mark.

Bunyonyi Warriors fought back through Robinson Obuya and Anas Baig, who shared a superb opening partnership. Obuya struck 64 off 42 balls while Baig smashed 62 from 30 deliveries to keep the chase alive.

But once the opening stand was broken, Mburo regained control. Steven Wabwose starred with the ball, taking three wickets, while Hamid Munigwa claimed two. Riazat Ali Shah also chipped in with a crucial breakthrough as Bunyonyi finished on 177 for seven, 20 runs short of the target.

Wabwose’s influential all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

The afternoon fixture belonged to the tournament leaders, who maintained their unbeaten record with a convincing 34-run victory over Victoria Strikers.

Gerald Olipa once again led the way for Kyoga Avengers, blasting 54 off 24 balls and clearing the boundary six times as his side posted 181 for six.

Cyrus Kakuru anchored the innings with a composed 50 off 36 balls, while Conrad Lubwama contributed 29 and Juma Miyaji added 24.

Victoria Strikers’ Baidhu Ivan claimed three wickets but could not prevent Kyoga from setting a challenging target.

The Strikers showed determination in reply, with Robert Ajuna top-scoring with 44, Jonathan Kiiza making 29 and Theoneste Hakuziyaremye remaining unbeaten on 25. However, regular wickets stalled their chase and they finished on 147 for eight.

Olipa capped another outstanding performance by contributing with the ball and was named Player of the Match.

The results leave Kyoga Avengers firmly on top of the standings with 10 points from five matches. Mburo Blasters are second on six points, while Victoria Strikers and Bunyonyi Warriors remain tied on two points each.

The tournament continues on Tuesday with Victoria Strikers taking on Mburo Blasters before Bunyonyi Warriors face the unbeaten Kyoga Avengers.
