Uganda Under-18 national girl’s basketball team coach Ali Mavita has outlined the laid out expectations for her side at the ongoing 2022 FIBA Zone V Afrobasket qualifiers.

Mavita did not shy from the fact that she wants her side to grow in ranking, stature, confidence and qualify for Africa as well.

“Our expectations in this tournament is to definitely be number one,” she said after Uganda’s 71-50 Tuesday win over Rwanda in the former’s opening game, with Tanzania next on Wednesday.

“We want the girls to grow in confidence with every game and we want to qualify for Africa as well,” added the coach.

Despite the impressive victory over the regional neighbors, Mavita was not blown away into excitement, insisting the side still has plenty to work on.

“We played good defense against Rwanda but, we still have a couple of things that we have to improve going forward.”

Uganda take on Tanzania later today, and Mavita has her worries over the side’s aggressiveness.

“Tanzania is aggressive and has some skilled guards as well. But we shall play our game, deep and great defense.”
