Unlike their opposite sex who had a mixed start on the opening day of the ongoing Kenya Chess Open Championship, Ugandan female participants were on fire.

Hosted at the Satir Expo Center in Nairobi, Peninah Nakabo, Woman Candidate Master Shakira Ampaire, and the siblings of Aine Atubet and Talia Atubet won their opening two rounds.

Also, Woman Fide Master Gloria Nansubuga and Takali Milly, each won one and drew the other to register a flying start in the lady’s section.

The Open continued today with rounds three and four. With a good first day, Ugandans back home in Kampala and the country at large are hoping for a similar or better display.
